Read More »Apple Aperture 2.1
In another bit of news, Apple released an update to Aperture, its photo editing, workflow program. The update is to Aperture 2.1 and from what I glean, if you are an Aperture user, it is a nifty update. In fact, Aperture is tempting me more and more. I’ve been an Adobe Lightroom user, but recently with the non-release "release" of the Lightroom 1.4 "update," (it was immediately taken away because of serious bugs) I’ve decided to explore Aperture again. Apple seems to have listened to its users and upgraded the program to redress some of its most glaring shortcomings.
I’m still investigating how Apple plans to work with Nikon on such issues as RAW support, and Capture NX, and how it will work with NIK software’s Viveza plug-in, as well as how they will implement non-destructive editing of images manipulated via the new plug-in architecture, etc. So far they seem to be moving swiftly in making Aperture truly a great photographic workflow application. It doesn’t hurt that I am just at that point where I am considering making changes to my workflow, so… Aperture 2.1 here I come. Let’s see what you’ve got.
Read More »Adobe Photoshop Express — Beta
Adobe has introduced an online "light" version of its branded Photoshop software (albeit express) Adobe Photoshop Express. It is easy to set up an account and start using it. Give it a whirl. While not the power user’s program, it allows for some basic fun manipulation and showing of images. Like the Google Online Documents (and others), this becomes yet another web app. Some say that’s the way all software will go — rather than residing in our hard disks at home.
In the meantime, I’ll continue to use Photoshop CS3 and Nikon Capture NX on my Macs.
